postheadericon SEO for Tampa Bay websites.

My first blog last week was about why in the last few years I've switched to CMS websites.  How the power and flexibility they provide just can't be touched by a traditional HTML website.  This week I'm focusing on what to do with the website once it is up.  If you don't properly market your website it is like a drawer full of business cards.  Useless.

Now when you work with me on your website I do all the things like keywords, descriptions and all that.  Many website builders don't know how or don't bother and you end up having to spend at least a few hundred dollars more on an SEO company.

There are a lot of other factors that play into SEO.  SEO starts with the website. As I mentioned, you have to have keywords and descriptions put in but one of the most important things is that the copy or words on your website has to reflect what it is that you want to get found for.  If you are a candle making business you better make darn good and sure that candles and candle making are mentioned several times on the first page.  Especially in that first paragraph. It is important to have images with the key words as well.  So on that first page if your business is Betty's Candle Making you should have some images of candles and named so.  Don't use the camera file name or some obscure code the developer comes up with.  Have images called Betty's candle making and candles and things like that.

Once the site is buttoned up that is only the beginning.  You then have to reach out to other places on the internet to link back to your site.  A site that has no links looks to a search engine like it isn't important.  No one wants to reference it.  If no one cares about it why should they?  Well, they don't.  So your first order of business is getting with all your suppliers and everyone you know that has a website and asking them to put a link to your site.  In return you put a link to their somewhere on yours.  That is called a reciprocal link and is important.  The more you have the better you look.

And recently the social networking explosion has become very important.  So important that it will be the subject of next weeks blog.  But suffice it to say right now that you have to have accounts at all the major ones.

And the final thing I'm going to reference in this blog is that you need is dynamic content.  With todays internet you can't just put a website up and leave it at that.  This is the reason I have this blog.  It is dynamic content.  When the search engines look at the site in layman’s terms they take a “snap shot” of it.  When they come back they compare the snap shots and if it is always they same your site never changes so why bother to keep coming back to index it?  Keep updating the content and it seems like you have something to say and it will up your rankings.

This is just a rough over view of the principals you need to consider when preparing your site for the internet.  If you need help with websites, e-commerce,  video production in Tampa Bay or professional photography drop me a line or give me a call.
